What do you spend your time on?

This is a message about time management. Time management is arguably one of the most important skills for a student and or professional – but why?. Well, time is one resource that we cannot get back. We can make $1 back, we can make a few hundred dollars back, given enough time. However, once we spend a minute, an hour or a day, then it’s gone. And we hope that that time that we used moves us closer to our goal, or destination. We hope the time that we spend with friends is helping make us a better person, time we spend with our significant other, is helping deepening that relationship and time that we spend learning, or in school is helping us become more knowledgeable, or a better professional.

And so the question again is, what are you spending your time on? How many minutes, or hours, do you spend on social media? How long do you spend scrolling through your news feed, looking at the memes, or videos, or reading the motivational quotes, and then putting no action behind it? How many minutes, or hours, are you spending on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or the various comment sections on the internet? What could that time be spent on instead?

So how do we spend our time differently?

Generally speaking, there are books, there are podcasts. There are instructional videos. There are resources there are people who know more than you do. Learn from them. There are those quality friends who help you again push you forward and help motivate you to do the things that you’ve always wanted. Spend more time with them.

4 Key Steps to effectively use your time…

  1. (Goal-Setting) Commit to a goal. You have to know where you’re going in order to get there. Once you set a specific specific goal, then you can lay out what actions or tools or resources will help me move you forward, and which ones will hold you back.
  2. (Planning) Create a plan. A plan is again those step by step processes that help move you forward. Your plan doesn’t have to be set in stone for an extended amount of time. However, it has to be structured and organized in a way that will ultimately move you towards what you really want.
  3. (Self-Discipline) A plan without discipline is just a wish. So when you feel like it, take massive action when you don’t feel like it takes some action, and both days, make sure you’re moving in the right direction.
  4. (Support) Of course, financial support and social support is key. While motivation may help pick you up on those dark days, motivation does not last. And in those times you may take a break, you may rely on someone to help keep you going. You may want to share the idea with someone just to make sure you’re on the right track, but you need to have a supportive environment around you.

With those four things, you are much more likely to achieve your goals. However, you have to make sure that we’re using our time effectively. Let us know what you think in the comments.
