Welcome!

Thank you for stopping by. We at Clifton Psychological Services, Inc. hope to offer you information, support, and/or resources related to mental health and educational. Our counseling services emphasize a client-centered approach that blends clinical methods with practical application. Educational services aim to build your child’s, or teen’s, skills and confidence when faced with school tasks.

Whether you are wanting to learn more about mental health or contact us for a consultation, we hope to be a part of your journey.

Mental Health Services

What was once plagued by stigma, mental health has been discussed and examined much more in recent years. This comes with some good and bad aspects, as there are more resources available – but there is also many sources of misinformation out there. Allow us to provide a more robust, informed, and experienced perspective on information and strategies to manage some of life’s challenges.

  • Children’s Counseling

Typically, we approach child counseling through activities, games, and more guided processes. We partner with parents by aligning our approach with your goals and needs to help your child achieve a high level of success (socially, academically, and behaviorally).

  • Teen Counseling

Parent partnership remains a key component for us at Clifton Psychological Services, Inc. Teens are most often finding their own voice and sense of self. Because of this, our approach with teens takes more of a balanced approach (counselor & teen); we offer a safe space for expression and guidance towards important goals. We offer parents general strategies and frameworks for connecting with their teens as well.

  • Emerging Adults Counseling

Emerging adults are in an exciting, yet challenging, time of their life. Most are just coming out of high school and considering what is next for them. College? Job? Gap Year? We all have to find our individual path, and that can lead to lots of complicated emotions. Since emerging adults are 18 or older, our services are set up directly with them. Family members may collaborate, but only with the consent of the client.

Educational Services

Additionally, we can also support students academically. Our years of experience working directly with teachers and students in schools contributes to instructional, curricular, and intervention expertise. We hope to support your child in their learning through individualized, evidence-based, strategies to build their skills over time. We bring our years of experience and expertise to helping you achieve your learning goals.

  • Tutoring

We offer structured tutoring services to work with children and teens on academic tasks. Our emphasis is on building skills over time which sometimes includes homework, but usually not. We are aware of the various learning skills required for success in Reading, Math, and Writing – including Common Core and other complex uses of these skills. Therefore, we typically consider the individual’s current difficulties and ‘build out’ an intervention plan to guide the tutoring. For example, we may work with a 7th grader on basic Phonics because those skills (Phonics) are foundational to successful Reading at every grade level. Contact us to learn more about our Tutoring services.

  • Psychoeducational Evaluations

We are able to address questions or concerns regarding learning difficulties. The assessment tools used are able to recognize Dyslexia, ADHD, and other common learning disorders. Our focus is on interventions and strategies to support. Usually, these types of evaluations may be offered through the public school system – we can help consider your situation and provide recommendations on next steps. In either case, we want you and your family to achieve your overall goals.
